Class IV Therapeutic Laser

Therapeutic Laser

Therapeutic laser, or cold laser, uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation. This process is known as photobiomodulation. We use a class IV therapeutic laser, the strongest available, to deliver fast, effective treatments to your pet. Treatment is painless and usually takes just a few minutes.

Acupuncture needles

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to promote healing, relieve pain, and restore energy balance. It has been used for thousands of years and is now widely recognized in both Eastern and Western medicine for its therapeutic benefits.

pEMF Assisi Loop

pEMF

Pulsed electromagnetic field (pEMF) therapy uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate cellular activity, which stimulates tissue repair and regeneration, reduces pain and inflammation, and increases circulation. This non-invasive therapy is painless, and treatment takes about 15 minutes per site.

Hot/Cold Pack

Thermo/Cryotherapy

Heat and cold therapy are two simple yet effective methods for managing pain, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing. Each therapy has distinct effects on the body and is used for different conditions. While these therapies seem very basic, they can have profound effects on tissue healing and pain management.

TENS/NMES unit

TENS/NMES

TENS and NMES are types of electrical stimulation therapy used for pain relief and tissue recovery. TENS works by blocking pain signals and releasing the body's natural pain killers like endorphins. NMES causes actual muscle contractions, which helps reduce muscle atrophy and aids in neuromuscular re-education.

Floor Exercises

Floor exercises are an essential part of veterinary rehabilitation, helping pets recover from injuries, surgeries, and neurological conditions. These exercises focus on improving mobility, strength, coordination, and balance while being low-impact to prevent strain. Some of the more common exercises in passive range of motion (PROM), weight shifting, sit-to-stands, Cavaletti rails, balance boards and discs, and assisted standing/walking.

Commonly Treated Conditions

Dogs and cats with a wide variety of conditions can benefit from acupuncture and rehabilitation. Whether your pet recently had surgery, has experienced mobility decline with age, or is a sporting or working dog needing to stay in peak condition, these therapies can help restore them to health, manage their pain, and maintain a great quality of life.

Some of the most commonly treated conditions include:

  • Osteoarthritis/degenerative joint disease

  • Post-operative knee surgeries (TPLO, TTA, extracapsular, etc.)

  • Post-operative back surgeries (ventral slot, hemilaminectomy)

  • IVDD

  • Degenerative myelopathy

  • Hip and elbow dysplasia

About Me

Hello! I'm Dr. Megan, the owner and veterinarian at Flex Pet. I started this practice to bring rehabilitation and acupuncture services straight to your pet, so they can get the therapy they need in the comfort of your home (or yard). I am a Reno native and graduated from Reno High School prior to attending UNR for undergraduate, where I studied Animal Sciences and Biology. From there, I attended veterinary school at Oregon State University, graduating in 2015 with my DVM. During vet school, I developed an interest in holistic and alternative medicine and went on to complete my veterinary acupuncture certification (CVA) at the Chi Institute shortly after graduation. I spent the next several years doing a mixture of general practice and acupuncture, and I realized that most of my acupuncture patients could also greatly benefit from rehabilitation therapies. In 2024, I completed my rehab certification (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee. Having seen the profound effects these therapies had on my patients' quality of life, I decided to take the leap and open my mobile practice, focusing just on acupuncture and rehabilitation. When I'm not working, I'm living the glamorous mom-life raising my beautiful daughter, Luna, alongside my husband and best friend, Brandon. We have 2 dogs, a 15 year old black Lab mix named Zeke, and a 5 year old shepherd mix named Rucker, as well as a desert blonde tarantula named Popcorn. I love the outdoors, especially hiking, rock climbing, running, and snowboarding, and I'm grateful to have the Sierras right in my backyard!

What Pet Owners Say

"Compassion, attentiveness, and support"

"Treatments made such a difference"

I went to see Dr. Wiltzius to start acupuncture treatment for my 8 yr old Greyhound who unfortunately suffers from malignant subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma. While he is on chemo drugs and pain meds I wanted to include acupuncture as an adjunct treatment for his pain. The appt went very well. I was impressed with Dr. Wiltzius, her compassion, attentiveness, and support means so much.

"My 8.5 year old Komendoodle's cardiologist suggested I take him for acupuncture when he presented with degenerative myelopathy and had to be catheterized a minimum of twice a day. Dr. Wiltzius was so caring & professional with my boy. Her treatments made such a difference for his bladder. Dr. Wiltzius always made time for my babies, never rushing us, making us feel special & very cared for. In my opinion, she is one of a kind!"

"Essential part of our team"

My working line German Shepherds put their bodies through a lot—tracking, obedience, protection work, and their everyday antics all take a toll. Whether it's addressing a specific injury, or just routine maintenance, Dr. Wiltzius' exceptional care has kept my boys on the field training and competing instead of being sidelined by pain and injury. Dr. Wiltzius is not just our vet, she's an essential part of our team!
